Rachel in the care of the Lescanos

Alex and Jenny are here and they thought it would be fun to go up to Camp. Adam and Rachel went with them and the whole Lescano family. They went for less than 24 hours.

My Lawyer, Gloria Allred, says we should ask for an undisclosed monetary settlement and an apology from Tiger Woods.

Random bunny sketches

I don't know- maybe because it is Easter.

Friday, March 19, 2010

My grand-nephew Zack is going to be in a soap-box derby, actually a push car derby by his house on Sunday.

I wish I got to do cool stuff like that when I was a kid- anyway I was inspired to do these two sketches.

1 is Zach burning down the hill, the other is me imagining that I get to go down the hill also.

American Idol

I used to love American Idol. This year is beyond horrible and I bid farewell to my old friend.

You are telling me that they searched the whole country and these people are what they found?

I can not sing at all, but I did not try out for a SINGING contest.

I miss Paula Abduhl's random outbursts and pre rehab space outs.Simon has clearly checked out and why is Ellen sitting there?

Oh well...........................this will be my first and last sketches of American Idol

battle of the bulge

I am really busy with work now (Thank God) which means less time to exercise. It is getting harder to get back into exercising and I know I have to do it. I went for a run yesterday, with not great results.I hurt even before I finished the run.

I also went to the gym for a little work-out today. I was in the shower (which are just open) and across the way was a weird looking Asian man standing in the shower with trunks on and the water not turned on and he was there the whole time I was in the shower. Wow! Super creepy!

Gym goers beware(I decided not to draw a cartoon for this incident.

Jason Castro

My Daughter,Rachel, likes (stalker) Jason Castro who is the dread locked singer from American Idol from a couple of seasons ago, so we headed down south last week to go see his concert. We picked up Hannah on the way down and we were there really early so we went to the beach, had fish tacos and saw the most bums I have ever seen in one place.

We then went to Old World to walk around and I parked very far from the curb.

We then headed to the concert and there was no parking and we circled around the building a couple of times with no luck. On the third spin around the block I decided to park parallel to the curb in front of some construction site that was enclosed with chain-link and had a fire hose with pressure in the gutter. The street was tight so I was being very careful to get close to the curb- kablam. We were suddenly engulfed in water from a busted fire hose(not sure how it broke on it's own). We then left to find a parking place with less water.

We finally found a parking space and walked to the concert. I did not know who to call about the fire hose ( someone did call and they turned off the water) There was quite a bit of water flowing down the hill and right past the front of the Bar where the concert was. Rachel and Hannah found this quite humorous! I felt really bad and I had visions of the Universal Studios Tour where they stop at the bottom of the hill and a flash flood rushes down the street- it was not as big as that but I felt bad anyways.

This is me.

Here are a few sketches about my youth. I actually never really tried out for any sport. I do remember not getting picked for anything in P.E. It would be down to me or the guy with the full body brace or the guy that had a metal halo bolted into his head-BOLTED INTO HIS HEAD. That is not a lie. I can not remember the guy's name, but he had the halo bolted into his head and he was still on the tennis team. I think he was also class president.

Go figure.

Pirate Health Care

I think Pirates had little or no health care.

This is me

I was doing some sketches from memories from my youth.

I used to have to buy my clothes at Sear's "boy's husky" line. They were sold at Sears at the rear of the boy's department, past the Boy Scout outfits, next to the restrooms. They were made from, I believe, the indestructible material they use for the sails on sailboats. They would not bend and they had "knee patches" sewn into the pants. I am not sure what was up with that but it did mess with my mind in my formative years.

I also wore tshirts in the pool because I mistakenly thought it would make me look thinner and hide my substantial man-breasts- the plan was flawed.

I also spent one semester in the marching band in Junior High. We wore white berets, white belts, powder blue pants(see "boy's husky") and white turtlenecks and yet I was never beaten up.I did however realize that if I ever wanted to kiss a girl, my tenure in the moving musical arts must end there and then- I was at a substantial disadvantage even without the association of a marching band.

Let's just say, I have spent many years trying to forget my formative years.

Valentines Day

I went to get my lovely bride a Valentine's gift last night at the last minute and it was sad to see the Valentines Day gift display ransacked. The racks were empty except for some very sad bent cardboard heart shaped candy boxes, the kind of chocolates that have only one or two good chocolates and then a whole bunch of chocolates with weird stuff inside them that no one eats.

It was sad and then I thought, well there must be alot of people who love alot of other people and that is why there was nothing there. It could also be that there was nothing left because people feel obligated to buy "stuff" on this arbitrary day that we MUST share gifts and cards. I have mixed feelings about Valentines Day. It is kind of stupid. I love my wife and my family everyday. I find it weird that there is a day that I am told I have to show my love by buying stuff. I try to show my love everyday and I know that is not possible to do. There are days that my wife,Maureen, would rather kill me than say she loves me and the other way around. I think that is why we have laws against killing each other.

It is also an opportunity to show love to other people that may need that gesture on that very day. Maureen always bring flowers to the widow down the street. We do not really talk to her very much, but Maureen has a conviction in her heart to stop by on a day that may feel very lonely to our neighbor and I am sure she feels special that someone is thinking about her.

I am so blessed to have a loving wife, the best"children"(they are all now adults) a man could have. I have no money, but I am "rich" with love.

P.S. I still bought her something!

The Economy

I was thinking about the economy today and it reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, so I did a sketch with the heroes going through the scary forest into the even scarier 2010 economy.

I could just see Obama behind the curtain . I have always been freaked out by those flying monkeys. Are those monkeys real or are they midgets or are they little kids and why are they wearing Bellmen outfits. The guards are also freaky.I think they did genetic experiments in the Witches Castle.

Rachel Kuhn's 20th Birthday

Well it was Rachel Kuhn's 20Th Birthday yesterday! My daughter,Rachel, has been good friends with Rachel for many of those 20 years and I can not believe how fast the years have gone. I wish I could be 20 again or at least remember being 20.

I went to Pick Up Sticks to get lunch yesterday and as I turned away from the counter, Rachel ,my Rachel and Bri were behind me in line. I got to have lunch with them and it was a treat for me. These are special and beautiful women in every way and I am better for knowing them.

I told Rachel Kuhn that I would draw a birthday card for her, but I got busy and did not get a chance . So Happy Belated Birthday to Rachel.

Love from the Pockett Family.

Sorry to hear it.

SuperBowl

Overall, a pretty boring SuperBowl. The Who? Really? I was afraid one of them would fall down and break a hip.

working out and eating right

A real challenge for me is trying to loose weight. I did loose some weight over the last couple of years, but I need to loose a TON more. I do work out quite a bit, but I also like food that is bad for me.

I found out this week that you can't eat a full large size salt and vinegar bag of chips and three bags of miniature chocolate bars and loose weight. Who knew?

Here is me weighing in at the gym.

Fringe

I love this show called Fringe on Fox. The show is made by the same people that did X files, which I also loved. I also found a website called "Dude a Day" where a guy did illustrations of characters from movies, tv and video games that he liked for a full year. The website is really cool if you like illustration. He is really good and it inspired me to try the same thing. I am not sure if I can do it, but it might be a fun challenge.

Today is my first day and I did some characters from Fringe- nowhere close to how good that illustrator is- but it is fun.

Thanks, Dave

Old Cars

I love cars from the sixties. I also love old Volkswagen's. I have owned some old cars. They look cool and are dangerous to drive at the same time and that makes them cool in my opinion.

I just recently sold my old Jaguar and I do miss it even though I did not drive it that much in the last few years.

I did have a 1964 Volkswagen Van that I loved way too much.It was rusty and when you drove it and looked down you could see the road through some size able gaps in the floor pan. Sometimes the key would fall out of the ignition but the car would not turn off. It leaked and it smelled like a combination of oil and gas and I think the stuffing in the seats, old Volkswagen enthusiast's will know the smell I am talking about.

It was not worth very much, but I could not tell you how many times people would come up to me to check out my van and tell me they had one and the stories of their van or bug and then walk back over to their Porsche or Mercedes or Ferrari with sadness in their eyes.

I eventually had it restored and then someone stole it from in front of my house. I was a victim of a hate crime- I hated that someone stole my van. That was probably ten years ago. If anyone sees my van, send it back to me. It was green and white with green and white interior, green seats with white piping and a hula girl on the dashboard.

Just starting

My Daughter has started a blog site and I thought I would make my own blogsite so that I can write down ideas that no one will read except the people I make go to my blogsite to read things they do not want to read about.

I am going to mostly post sketches, ideas and doodles of cartoons and some ideas on housing.

I have a business designing homes http://www.newdirectionhomedesigns.com/ that I just started with my friend Mike Pilarski. We both worked at Bassenian Lagoni Architects for all of our adult lives and we were laid off about a year ago. Thank you Obama for "Change". Obama never specified that the "Change" would be a GOOD change. Oh well. That is about the extent of political discussions.

I also have another website at http://www.davepockettdesign.com/ and that has a link to my tshirt "store" on zazzle.

I will try to draw a cartoon everyday or at least once a week or at least once a month or at least once a year.
